MRS. ANTJE FOLKERTS LAID TO REST

Mrs. Antje Folkerts was born in Larrelt, Germany, February 16, 1860 and died at the home of Mrs. Minnie Peterson in Britt, Wednesday, October 9, having attained the age of 86 years, 7 months, and 23 days. Deceased was ill but one day, suffering from bronchial pneumonia. On the previous day she had visited at the home of her brother, Jacob Sweers, and his wife.

Antje Sweers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harm Sweers, spent her early life in her native Germany and in 1883 was married to Heije Folkerts.

In 1890 Mr. and Mrs. Folkerts, accompanied by their two children, Herman and Jake, sailed for America - the land where all people had an equal chance. They resided at Wellsburg, Iowa, one year and in 1891 came to Hancock county. They lived on a farm south of Britt for seven years then moved nearer to Kanawha. A number of years later they moved into Kanawha where Mr. Folkerts died on August 13, 1922.

In 1924 Mrs. Folkerts married Harm Folkerts, a brother of her first husband. They lived together until 1925 when they were parted by death.

Since her first husband's death, Mrs. Folkerts lived for a number of years in Kanawha and then spent some time among her children. She was in Rest Haven Nursing Home in Mason City several months and during the past year had been in Britt.

Deceased was the mother of fourteen children. Of this number, five survive: two sons - Herman Folkerts at Ventura and Jake of Britt; three daughters, Mrs. Jake Van Dusseldorf (Kate), Britt, Mrs. Henrey Brouwer (Hannah), Clear Lake, and Mrs. Peter Ruter (Anna), Kanawha. One brother, Jacob Sweers, at Britt; a sister, Mrs. Grace Veer, at Mason City; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren also survive. A daughter, Mrs. Fred Abbas, of Kanawha was killed in an accident a number of years ago.

Deceased was a faithful member of the Christian Reformed Church of Kanawha where the funeral services were held Saturday afternoon following a short service at the Boughton Funeral Home in Britt. Interment was made in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery at Britt. Rev. D. H.
