Rites Saturday for Pioneer of Hancock County

Garner - Funeral services for Louis Schmidt, 81, pioneer Hancock county farmer, will be held at the St. Boniface church at 9 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Father M.J. Manternach in charge. Burial will be in the St. Boniface cemetery. He died at his home Wednesday evening after a long illness.

Mr. Schmidt was born in Austria June 21, 1868, son of Frank and Teresa Schmidt, and came to the Garner vicinity when he was 14 years old, settling on a farm a quarter of a mile from the home farm where he lived his entire life after he was married May 14, 1898, to Emma Bush. Born to this union were 8 children, all of whom survive.

Surviving are 3 sons, Leo, Arnold and Alois, all of Garner; 5 daughters, Mrs. Mike Roach, Garner; Mrs. George Albers, Clear Lake; Gertrude, Erma Linda and Ada Linda, at home. Mrs. Schmidt died in July, 1941.

Three sisters also survive, Mrs. John Engstler, Mrs. Frank Kriz of Garner and Mrs. Henry Fritsch of Owatonna, Minn.
