Emma Ingram was born in Wheeling township, Guernsey County, Ohio to parents James Ingram (born October 7, 1828 Llananno, Radnorshire, Wales, died July 17, 1904 Guernsey, Ohio) and Rose Ann Brown (born August 11, 1824 Jefferson, Ohio, died August 27, 1860 Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio). Emma was the 2nd of their four children. Her siblings were:
Rosalie (1855-1909);
John Wesley (1857-1946) and
George W. (1859-1930).

She also had 4 step-siblings:
Elias Charles Ewing (1850 Ohio-1923);
Evan James Ingram (August 13, 1852-March 5, 1937 Ohio);
James Hamilton Ingram (January 13, 1854 Wheeling, Guernsey, Ohio - February 11, 1945 Concord, Hancock, Iowa) and
Edward Ingram (born 1870 Wheeling Guernsey, Ohio).

(Note: her father James was married 4 times; her mother Rose Ann was married twice.)

Found in the 1860, 1870 censuses living at Guernsey, Ohio:
1860(Wheeling): James Ingram 33, Rose A Ingram 35, Rosilla Ingram 8, Emma Ingram 7, John Ingram 6, James H Ingram 5, Evan Ingram 4.

1870(Millinersville): James Ingram 42, Elanor Ingram (her stepmother) 55, Ivan Ingram 18, James H Ingram 17, Rosalie Ingram 15, Emma Ingram 14, John Ingram 11, George Ingram 9, David Siman 55.

Emma married George Patterson Carothers November 12, 1874 at Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio. The couple had eleven children:
Sarah Ellen (1875-1971);
John Hamilton (1877-1957);
James Dale (1878-1938);
Rosella Jane (1880-1971);
William Garfield (1881-1957);
Etta Martha (1883-1938);
Elizabeth Miller (1885-1940);
Mary Josephine (1887-1970);
Minnie Agnes (1890-1974);
Margaret Alys (1892-1977) and
Albert George (1894-1897).

Found in the 1880 census living at Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio: George P. Carothers 29, Emma Carothers 23, Sarah E. Carothers 4, John H. Carothers 3, James D. Carothers 1, Rocilla J. Carothers 3 mos.

Spring of 1888: family moved west to Garner, Hancock, Iowa.

Found in the 1895-1915 censuses living at Garner, Hancock, Iowa:
1895: Emma Carothers age 38.

1900: Husband George had died earlier that year, they had been married 25 years. Emma working as a dressmaker. Says 11 children, 10 living, (George Albert had died 1897 at age 3). Emma Carothers 43, Sadie E Carothers 24, Jennie R Carothers 20, William G Carothers 18, Lizzie M Carothers 14, Josephine M Carothers 12, Minnie A Carothers 10, Margaret A Carothers 7.

1910: Emma Carothers 52, Lizzie Carothers 24, Josephine Carothers 22, Margaret Carothers 17.
1915: Emma Carothers age 58, housewife, widowed, finished 8th grade, Presbyterian.

Found in the 1920 census at Briggsdale, Weld, Colorado: S C (Sadie, her daughter) Fotheringham 44, (widowed) Emma Carathers 63.

Found in the 1930 at Garner, Hancock, Iowa: John Carathers (her son) 53, Bertha Carathers 47, Maurice Carathers 16, Joy Carathers 10, Wayne Carathers 8, Emma Corathers 73.

Emma (Ingram) Carothers died at the home of her daughter, Margaret (Carothers) Lade in Garner, Hancock, Iowa on May 6, 1932. She was buried at the Concord Cemetery at Garner, Hancock, Iowa.

Other new officers are William Carothers of Manila, vice president and Mrs Dale Young of Garner, secretary. William Carothers of Wisconsin Dells, Wisc came with his family for the reunion and it was his first trip back to Iowa in 26 years. People came from Garner, Manila, Ohio, Wisconsin Dells, Dover, Algona, Mason City, Belmond, Clear Lake, Fairmont, MN, Newton, Klemme and Hampton.
