Louis Schneider

MANLY — Louis Schneider, 85, of Manly, an avid pilot, motorcyclist and tailor, died Wednesday (Dec. 31, 1986) at a Mason City nursing home.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, with the Rev. William Arquitt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation is after 3 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer-Bride Colonial Chapel, Manly, where a parish wake will be held at 7 p.m. Friday.

Mr. Schneider was born June 1, 1901, in Garner to Joe and Eva (Haaf) Schneider. He was raised near Miller and attended rural schools in the area. On April 10, 1923, he married Mary Dankbar at Garner.

They farmed in the Garner area for five years, then moved to Swaledale for a short time before moving west of Manly where they farmed. Mr. Schneider also worked as a brakeman for the Rock Island Railroad for nine years and had been employed by the Manly school system. They moved to Manly in 1980.

Mr. Schneider became a pilot at the age of 55 and flew until he was 82. He also enjoyed motorcycling and sewing, and had made many articles of clothing for himself.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, and the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association. He was a former member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lawrence (Catherine) Weir, Deerfield, Ill., and Corrine Fenelon, Waterloo; three sons, Cletus and Clement, both of Mason City, and Carl, Manly; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Gertrude Albaugh, Nashua; and one brother, George of Clear Lake, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1983, one daughter, five brothers and two sisters.
