Services were held at the Boughton Funeral Home, Monday afternoon for Mrs Irene Haxton. The Rev. E. Walter Lindgren pastor of the Evangelical Free Church, was in charge. Interment took place in the family lot in Evergreen Cemetery.
Irene Jane Richardson was born at Ridgeport, Iowa, March 3, 1872, a daughter to Henry and Jane Richardson. She moved with her parents to Dayton, Iowa, when a small child, receiving her education there, and growing to womenhood in that place. She united with the Baptist church while living at Dayton.
In 1894 Irene Richardson came to Britt to make her home with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Richardson, to keep house for them. On Feb. 22, 1905 she was united in marriage to Clarence O. Haxton, better known in this community as "Joe" Haxton, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Haxton. The couple established their home at Britt, and spent the remainder of their lives in this vicinity.
On Aug. 28, 1946 Mr. Haxton passed away and since that time Mrs. Haxton has resided in Britt and also spent some time among her children prior to going to the Britt Aged Rest Home ten months ago. A week ago she was taken to the Hancock County Memorial Hospital where death came Saturday noon, Oct 31, she had attained the age 81 years, 7 months and 28 days.
Surviving Mrs. Haxton are four sons and one daughter: Merle and Richard, Britt; Melvin and Wade, Mason City; Mary (Mrs. George Nelson), Dayton, Iowa; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a brother Henry Richardson, Independance, MO.; four daughters-in-law, and one son-in-law. A son, a daughter and a sister, Cynthia, preceded her in death.
