Mother of 10 Is Fatally Hurt in Fall
Crystal Lake - Mrs. William Peck, 56, died, Tuesday at Forest City Municipal Hospital from injuries received in a fall at the home of her daughter, Mrs Eldon J. Waldschmidt, earlier in the day. She fell down the stairs to the basement, suffering a fractured skull and brain concussion. She had been replacing part of a vacuum cleaner in the stairway at the time of the fall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Methodist Church here, preceded by a prayer for the immediate family at the family home.
She was born Gertie Ethel Peck, daughter of Joseph Nance and Josie Bottom Nance, on Sept. 26, 1900, at Campbellsville, Ky. On Sept. 26, 1917, she was married to William Peck at Jeffersonville, Ind. They lived at Wadsworth, Ohio, for one year. They farmed in the Britt, Titonka and Crystal Lake communities the rest of their married life.
Survivors include her husband and ten children, Mrs. Henry (Evelyn) Brower, Clear Lake; Mrs. Pake (Bernel) Lewerke, Garner; Gladys Waldschmidt; Mrs. Clyde (Edna) Tannahill, Forest City; Donald, Zering; Mrs. Ralph (Violet) Jurgenson, Garner; Willard, Britt; Duane, Forest City, Darlene and Sharon, at home. There are 24 grandchildren. Other survivors are two brothers, Henry Nance, Campbellsville, and Lee Nance, Indianapolis, Ind.
She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn C. Peck on June 4; a twin brother in infancy; twin sisters, Hettie and Lettie, and another sister, Fannie Richardson.
Services will be in charge of the Rev. Fergus McElrea, assisted by the Rev. Maynard Faber, both of Mason City. The Boughton Funeral Home, Britt, is in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Britt.
