Jack Engel Was Buried In Britt
Mrs. Louis Tegtmeyer, Sr. returned Friday morning from Chicago, Ill., where she had been staying for the past month at the Jack Engel home, during the illness and after the death of Mr. Engel, which occurred Tuesday, Feb. 26. Mr. amd Mrs. Clarence Gorman and Doreen and Louis Tegtmeyer, Sr. all went to Chicago to attend the service there.
Following the Chicago services the remains were brought to Britt by train accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Tegtmeyer, Sr. Mrs, Jack Engel. Eleanor and Carol accompanied the Gormans to Britt. Funeral services were held at the Boughton Funeral Home Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Paul W. Adix, pastor of the First Lutheran church in charge of the last rites. Burial was made on Evergreen cemetery at Britt.
Those from a distance who came to attend the last services were Albert Engel, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. John Wibben, LeRoy, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Freeman, Willmer, Minn., as well as others from nearby towns.
Jacob Engel was born at Mackenbach, Germany, Dec. 25, 1903. While still in Germany he apprenticed in Kaisenslautern as a draftsman and engineer. At the age of 19 he came to the States and entered the employment of the International Harvester Co. at Chicago as a pattern maker and had been in their employment for nearly 29 years. He advanced in his work until he became a designer for models of various items manufactured by I.H.C.
Mr. Engel, known to his friends as Jack, was confirmed in the Lutheran faith while in Germany. He became a citizen of the United States and lived true to the allegiance of his adopted country.
He was married to Miss Louise Tegtmeyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Tegtmeyer of Britt. The ceremony took place Sept. 30, 1933, in Chicago, Ill. The couple established their home in Chicago. To this union two daughters were born.
Mr. Engel had been ill for the past 15 months and hospitalized much of the time. At death he had attained the age of 48 years, 2 months and 1 day.
Surviving Mr. Engel is his wife, Louise: the two daughters, Eleanor and Carol, all of Chicago, Ill.; his aged mother, Mrs Albert Engel, Mackenbach, Germany; a brother, Albeert, Chicago, as well as other relatives.
