Services for Mrs. Louis (Lena) Grell, 92, of Ventura, who died Saturday at the hospital in Mason City were held on Tuesday November 22 at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Garner with Rev. R.W. Uecker officiating. Organist was Mrs. Ronald Boehnke. Ushers were Richard Dougan, Harlan Hayes, and LeRoy Hollatz. Casket bearers were: Arlo Woiwod, Laurice Woiwod, Vincent Woiwood, Stanley Grell, Bill Hay and Milton Bohn. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City with Cataldo Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Lena Adelphia Grell, the daughter of Carl and Anna (Schiska) Woiwod Sr., was born on January 23, 1885 at Garner. She was a member of the first confirmation class at St. John’s Lutheran Church were she was also baptized. She attended rural schools of Garner. November 6, 1907, she was married to Louis Grell at St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Garner. They farmed four miles west of Ventura until 1941, when they retired from active farming and moved to Ventura.
Mrs. Grell was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and a chapter member of St. John’s Lady’s aid and was also a chapter member of the Ventura Garden Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and craftwork.
She is survived by her husband Louis, her children, Mrs. Milo (Hulda) Olson of Ventura and Reuben and his wife Viola of Garner; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Raymond (Ruby) Grell of Clear Lake; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Anna Bohn of Garner and a brother, William Woiwod of Sun City, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Tillie; and 6 brothers, Frank, Carl, Walter, Otto, Edward, and Alfred.
