CLARENCE “BUD” LAVERNE HARTZELL, JR.

Clarence Hartzell, 78, Wauseon, passed away Saturday Sept 1, at Harborside Nursing Home in Swanton. He was born in Britt, Iowa on Sept. 24, 1923 to Clarence and Lottie (Ellsworth) Hartzell. On August 10, 1941 he married Marie Handeland and she preceded him in death in November of 2000.

Prior to his retirement, Hartzell was employed by Mapleleaf Farms in Milford, Ind. He enjoyed traveling the southwest United States, farming, lawn work, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Wauseon VFW #7424.

Surviving are three daughters, Judy (Donald) Lewis of Sylvania, Janyce (Kenneth) Murphy of Rockford, Mich., Joyce Fike of New Philadelphia, N.Y.; one son Jack (Charlene) Hartzell, Wauseon; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Elaine Hartzell of Des Moines, Iowa; Betty Mass of Ft. Dodge, Iowa; and Margie Darling of Arizona.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Edgar-Grisier Funeral Home in Wauseon with the Rev. Scott Silcox officiating. Interment was in the Wauseon Union Cemetery.
