Death of Mr. Cassens

Old Mr. Cassens, who has for many years made his home with Dr. Richter's family, was taken sick a couple of weeks ago, and although he had every care attention passed away Tuesday, March 13. He was born in Germany in the year 1828, became a sailor at the age of 13, which occupation he followed for 24 years, including service in the navy during the civil war. He was married in 1866. Four children were born to them of which there remains one daughter living. For about 25 years or since the death of his wife, he has made his home with the Richter family. He was a faithful member of the Lutheran church and a member in good standing of the Odd Fellows Lodge. The funeral occurs this afternoon, and after the preliminary service of the Church by Rev. Brenner and Rev. Paterson, the brethren of the Lodge will pay a last tribute to the departed brother, and lay him away in mother earth till the last great day. Peace be to his ashes.
