Car-cycle crash injuries are fatal

Rex E. Alden, 20, of the rural Klemme-Garner area, was the second resident of Hancock County to lose his life in a traffic accident in the county last Wednesday when he died at a Rochester, Minn., hospital of severe head injuries he received in a car - motorcycle crash that happened on Highway 69 near Klemme April 28.

Alden reportedly entered the highway in front of an automobile driven by Frank M. Alexander of Kansas City, Mo. when the collision took place. Also injured, but less seriously, was Bill Christie, 20, of Garner who was a passenger on the motorcycle Alden was operating. Both were taken to the Belmond hospital for treatment, but Alden was later transferred to Rochester.

Funeral services for Rex were held Friday, May 3, at the Klemme Immanuel Reformed Church of Christ with the Rev. Marvin Lehmann officiating. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery at Klemme.

He was born July 3, 1953, the son of Eldridge and Gladys Greiman Alden and had been associated with his father in farming. He was a graduate of Klemme High School and was confirmed in the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ at Klemme.

Survivors Include his parents; a brother, Glen of Iowa City; four sisters, Lynne Alden Wiggins of Vancouver, B.C., Canada; Roxy of Champaign, Ill., and Beth and Patty Pannhoff at home, and many relatives and friends.
