GARNER — Helena M. Boland, 94, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Garner died Sunday (Oct. 7, 2001) at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge.

Her funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peace Reformed Church south of Garner with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner and one hour prior to services at the church.

Helena Minnie Boland, the daughter of Otto and Mathilda (Katter) Schlawin, was born Nov. 11, 1906, at Garner. After attending school at Liberty Township School No. 1, she worked at the Mertz Store and Post Office in Hayfield.

On Dec. 14, 1927, she was married to Henry Boland at her parents' home in Garner. They farmed in the Garner-Hayfield area and for 24 years, near Klemme.

After retiring from farming, they moved to Forest City, where Helena worked at Waldorf College for 10 years. In 1988, she moved to Fort Dodge to be near her daughters.

She enjoyed sewing, quilting, embroidering and reading.

She was a member of Peace Reformed Church and was a former Sunday school teacher.

She is survived by her two daughters, Phyllis Lundberg and her husband, Douglas, of Humboldt, and Lois Zeka and her husband, William, of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mathilda Eenhuis, of Mason City, and Myra Stahl, of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Boland, on May 21, 1962; an infant son; a daughter, Margaret Rollefson, in 1980; her son-in-law, Robert Rohrer; an infant grandson; her parents; two sisters, Sadie Lemke and Norva Cole; and brother, Roger Schlawin.
