Rites for Martin Monsen, Sr. scheduled for Saturday
Martin E. Monsen, Sr., who had been, employed by the Forest City sanitation department since 1967, died of a heart attack approximately an hour after arrival Wednesday [29 May 1974], morning at Forest City municipal hospital.
Mr. Monsen had begun work on his sanitation route at 5 a.m. Wednesday. He became ill and was taken home by a co-worker, Henry Riekena. Mrs. Monson brought her husband to the hospital at 6 a.m.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran church. Further details of the service were unavailable prior to Summit press time Wednesday afternoon.
A son of Emanuel and Anna (Egland) Monsen. Mr. Monsen was born March 16. 1911, in Chicago. He came to the Forest City area as a young man, and was married in this area to Bertha Charlson.
He had farmed in the Forest City area for a number of years before moving into Forest City.
Survivors include two sons, Martin Monson, Jr., and Eugene Monsen of Forest City, and a daughter, Mrs. Warren (Mary Ann) Ward, also of Forest City.
He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Elsie, Wilson of Forest City, Mrs. L. H. (Ann) Jordon of Turlock. Calif., Mrs. Dan (Gladys) Meyer of Woden and Mrs. Ernest (Martha) Riggle of Forest City; and seven grandchildren.
