Services Friday for Leland man

Funeral services for Carl Standly Holland of Leland will be conducted at 10:30 Friday morning at Immanuel Lutheran church in Forest City. The Rev. Ole Winter and the Rev. Steve Dornbusch will officiate. Burial will be in Madison Township cemetery.

Steve Olson will be the soloist and Norma Boomgarden, the organist. Casket bearers will be Elynn Charlson, Richard Christensen, Alfred Christensen, Bob Holland, William Kirschbaum and Raymond Knutson. The Petersen Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.

Holland, 65, died Monday [10 Aug 1981] at a Mason City hospital following an illness.

Carl Standly Holland, the son of Charlie and Inga Monsen Holland, was born July 17, 1916, in Grant Township in Winnebago county. He was baptized and
confirmed at Grant Lutheran church and attended school in Grant Township. Oct. 1, 1939, he was married to Irene Charlson by the Rev. Petterson at the Charlson family home.

The couple moved to a home on his father's farm and worked for the railroad until 1944 when he started farming full-time. He set up a shop on the farm where he did mechanical work and blacksmithing. Holland continued farming and also started his own electrical business. In 1965 he left farming, moved to Leland and was in the electrical contracting business until 1978. Since then he had had a hobby in woodworking.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; their four children, Charles and Ronald Holland of Forest City, DeAnn Holland of Clear Lake and Charlene Waite of Mesa, Ariz.; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Michael, a sister, Myrtle, and two brothers, Elmer and Ole.
