Hjalmer Hestad service held

Funeral services for Hjalmer Hestad, longtime area resident of Winnebago and Hancock counties were held Monday from Calvary Lutheran church at Crystal Lake.

Hestad died Saturday [13 Jul 1968] at the age of 69. He was still actively engaged in farming in the Hayfield area with his son, Robert, at the time of his death.

He was born Aug. 23, 1898 in Dane county Wisconsin, the son of John and Seaerina Hestad. While he was still at an early age the family moved to Vinje and later to Thompson.

Hestad was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and in 1930 he married Inez Knutson at Winnebago Lutheran church.

The couple had two children, a daughter lone, now Mrs. Robert Curtis of Marshalltown and a son, Robert of Garner.

The longtime resident was a charter member of Calvary Lutheran church and had been a deacon and held other church offices.

He is survived by his wife Inez and his two children and four grandchildren.

Also surviving are two brothers, Emil of Baron, Wis., San of South Bend, Ind, and five sisters.

Burial was in Madison township cemetery under the direction of Olson funeral home. Rev. A. E. Norson officiated.

Casket bearers were Eugene Baker, Ronald Brozik, Don Christensen, Roger Hall, Russell Hauan and Ronald Ryerson.
