Elaine Weiland, 71, of Klemme, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice, Mason City, following a battle with cancer.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 4, at the Klemme United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paddy Druhl officiated. Burial was in the Ell
Township Cemetery. The Andrews Funeral Home, Klemme was in charge of the arrangements.

Elaine Carlson was born on July 30, 1934, on her parent's farm west of Kanawha. She was the daughter of Adolph and Ruth (Paskin) Carlson. Elaine attended Kanawha area schools and graduated from the Kanawha High School in
1951.

Elaine was united in marriage to Vernon F. Weiland on January 1, 1953, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Their marriage of more than 40 years was blessed with five children, Kenneth, Karen Jo, Kelly, Kay and Kathy.

Following their marriage, the couple farmed for a time in the Kanawha area and later moved to a farm near Klemme in 1960. There they raised their family and Elaine was a partner with Vernon in the day to day farm operations.

Following their retirement in 1990, they moved into Klemme. In addition to being a devoted wife, farming partner, dedicated mother, and loving grandma, Elaine was a life long home maker. She was employed for many years at Par Products in Klemme.

Elaine adored her grandchildren and this relationship was a mutual love which they felt towards her as well. She received great pleasure in the simple things of life such as conversations with her family, grandchildren, friends, and the children of the community.

Some of her favorite past times included collecting souvenir playing cards and cow memorabilia. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her many friends. She enjoyed listening to country music. She was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include her daughters, Kay and husband, Joe Jackson of New Baden, Illinois and Kathy and husband, Verlyn Olthoff of Klemme; sons, Kenneth and wife, Donna Weiland of Klemme and Kelly and wife, Deb Weiland of Klemme; a brother, Carroll and wife, Beverly Carlson of Owatonna, Minnesota; four sisters, Marjorie Omvig of Kanawha, Maxine and husband, Cecil Eliason of Kanawha, Jeanie Bonjour of Idaho Falls, Idaho and Janice and husband, Rex Liekweg of Rockwell; and nine grandchildren, Travis Olthoff, Jenny Olthoff,
Jayme and husband, Eric Dougherty, Brandon Weiland, Joshua Jackson, Jared Jackson, Krystal Jackson, Katie Weiland and K.C. Weiland; and a
sister-in-law, Jeannine Carlson of Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon in March of 1993; daughter, Karen Jo Weiland in 2004; brothers, Leo and Harlan; sister, Leona Freerksen-Abbas; a nephew, Dennis Carlson; an infant sister; and a niece, Darci Bonjour.
