Laura Edna Flint was born April 10, 1884 at Broome, New York to Altha Almeda Hardy and Frank Flint. Her family moved west and settled in Hancock County, Iowa when she was very young.

Family found in the 1895 and 1900 censuses living at Ell township, Hancock County, Iowa:
1895: Laura Flint age 10.
1900: Frank Flint 40, Altha Flint 33, Laura Flint 16, Lizzie Flint 13, May Flint 11, Nettie Flint 4, Fred Flint 2, Carrie Flint 11/12, Melissa Garlow 67.

Laura married James Alfred Gilbert on February 21, 1906 at Garner, Hancock, Iowa.

The couple had 4 children:
Eva Marie (1907-1956);
Dean Alfred (1909-1958);
Raymond (1912 - 1982) and
Russell J (1918-1918).

Found in the 1910 census at Ell, Hancock, Iowa: James Gilbert 28, Louise Gilbert 24, Eva Gilbert 3, Dean Gilbert 0.

Laura died November 24, 1918 at Ell, Hancock, Iowa from the Spanish Influenza not long after their fourth child was born. The son also died. They are buried at the Concord Cemetery, Garner, Hancock, Iowa.
