Freda C. Lass the daughter of Peter and Katherine Thompson Merkel, was born September 27, 1896 in Greene County, Ia. She was baptized on November 8, 1896, and she attended school in Greene County. While living in the Klemme vicinity she became a member of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ.

She was united in marriage to John P. Lass on January 5, 1916, and they, lived in Hancock County, where they reared 2 children, Alvin and Betty. They farmed until they retired in 1955, and moved to Mason City, Ia; where Freda worked as Head Pastry Lady at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital until she retired in 1968. She lived in Mason City until a stroke forced her to be cared for by Bill and Betty in their home, and in 1983 she entered the Rockwell Nursing Home.

Freda died at the Rockwell Nursing Home on Friday, May 11, 1984 at the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 14 days.

She leaves to cherish her memory her son Alvin and wife Rita of Hampton, Va; daughter Betty and her husband William of Rochester, Minn; 6 Grandchildren, Rodney Lass & wife Donna; Diane Kirchner & husband Richard; Jerry Pearson & wife Sally; Janiel Olson & husband Bill; Donna Carter & Debra Lass. 12 Great Grandchildren, Christine & David Lass; Stephanie, Rebecca & Matthew Kirchner; Tracy Reindl; David Rae Lea & Russell Olson, Jill Pearson; Thomas & Joseph Carter. 2 Sisters, Mrs. Anna Christians of Klemme, & Mrs. Marie Gahan of Garner, Ia.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband John; an infant son, sister Clara, Brothers, Benhart, Alfred, Walter, & Lester.
