Obituary
Otto W. Lemke was born March 11, 1880, in Cacen, Germany, the second of eleven children born
to his parents, Henry and Albertena Lemke.The family migrated to America in 1883 when Otto was three years old. They lived in Garner,
Iowa, for a few years, then moved to a farm in Liberty Township located a half mile south
of the Liberty Methodist Church, where they resided for many years.The Liberty Methodist used the German language at that time, and the Lemke family made this
their church home and attended regularly, Here Otto grew to manhood. He held various offices
in his community and in his church and was always helpful. He was best known in later years
for his work as Sunday School Superintendent in the Klemme Methodist Church.On January 4, 1905, Otto W. Lemke, 24, and Mary Busch, 19, were married at the farm home of
the bride's parents. The officiating minister was the Rev. Albert Muehlmeier, who was the
first resident pastor of the Klemme Reformed Church. The marriage vows were spoken in German,
and the ceremony was witnessed by forty relatives and friends.Otto and Mary Lemke commenced housekeeping on the J. J. Stille farm in Liberty Township.
Three years later they moved to the Will Beier farm. Here their two sons were born. After
eight years they bought the Ernest Lenz farm, just west of Klemme. Here they lived thirty
years. Since then they have lived in Klemme in a nice small home on east main street.They celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1955, and now after 52 years of married
life the family circle is broken by the death of the husband. Otto, W. Lemke died Monday,
November 4, 1957. His age, 77 years, 7 months and 24 days.He leaves besides his wife Mary;
two sons; Wayne, of Huston, Texas and
Clarence of Klemme, Iowa.Also three grandchildren,
Sharon, Larry and Pamela;two sisters;
Bertha (Mrs. Will Beier), Fort Dodge, Iowa;
Anna (Mrs. Eric Clark), Clear Lake, Iowa;and two brothers;
William and John Lemke, Garner, Iowa;and a host of more distant relatives and friends.
