Obituary
Elizabeth Maria Stille was born in Detmolt, Missouri on May 20, 1870 to Henry and Louisa
Stille. Her parents operated a cereal mill, lumber mill and wool carding operation which
they sold when she was aged four, and the family of three daughters and three sons moved
to Hancock County on a farm which included the tract of land occupied by the Liberty
Methodist Church. Her early affiliation with the Methodist Church was pleasant experience for her. She was
active in Church, Sunday School, choir, and aid societies. Her devotion to her home and
family, coupled with her church, made her life complete. In 1893 she united in marriage with Franklin Gruetzmacher to which union four children were
born. Two sons died in infancy. A daughter, Glenna, and a son, Herold, both of Des Moines,
Ia., survive. Her husband passed away while they were residents of Klemme, Iowa, where they
had operated a store for forty-six years. She spent the latter years of her life with her daughter, a teacher in the Des Moines
schools. For many years her motion and activity have been impaired by Rheumatoid Arthritis.
She had been under hospital and nursing care for two years and nine months. The past two
years she had been bedfast. The painfulness of her affliction seemed to subside in the latter months but the extreme
inactivity to one who had been so active was difficult to accept.A lung affliction became apparent on the Sunday preceding her death. She passed away at
2:30 Friday, January 23, 1959.Surviving beside her son and daughter is a brother, John Stille, and a sister, Emma (Mrs
John Terhufen) both of Klemme, She was preceded in death by brothers William F. and Herman
Stille and a sister, Minnie (Mrs Ernest Schuldt). She also left two grandsons, Roger and James, and five great grandchildren who were a great
source of pleasure.Casket Bearers
