MRS. JENE HAMMILL, FORMER RESIDENT OF BRITT, PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Jene Hammill, a former Polk County recorder, died Saturday at Iowa Methodist Hospital of a cerebral Hemorrhage after a two-week illness.

Services for Mrs. Hammill, 85, of Des Moines, were held at 10 a.m. Monday at Dahlstrom's Funeral Home with burial at 2 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Born in Somonauk, Ill., Mrs. Hammill had lived in Des Moines since 1919. She was Polk County recorder from 1936 to 1948. A schoolteacher in Hancock County, she was also the Hancock County recorder for four years and was an examiner in the state auditor's office.

She was a graduate of Britt High School, Capital City Commercial College and the Des Moines College of Law (later Drake University Law School). She was admitted to the bar in 1933.

She was a member of Women's Rotary Club, Women's Chamber of Commerce, YWCA Board, Traveler's Aid Board, Iowa Republican Club, Royal Neighbors and the Congregational Church at Britt.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Agnes Kelly of Britt. Three nieces, Mrs. Doris Cook of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Brink of Westerville, Ohio; and Mrs. Anne Kimbrough of Denver, Colo. and two nephews, Richard Heidner of West Bend, Wisc. and Andrew R. Heidner of Milwaukee, Wisc.
