ESTHER SARAH GIBBS
Esther Sarah Gibbs was born December 7, 1891 in German Township of Hancock County, Iowa and died July 1, 1976 at the Concord Manor Nursing Home at Garner following a brief illness.
She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest (Friederika Koerner) Lenz. She attended rural school and graduated from Klemme High School. Esther was a piano teacher before her marriage.
On January 28, 1914 Esther was united in marriage to Harry R Gibbs at the home of her parents in Klemme. They farmed on the Gibbs home place until 1961 when they retired to Klemme. They had observed their golden wedding anniversary in 1964. In November of 1973 she moved to an apartment in Garner.
Mrs. Gibbs was a life long member of the Methodist Church, having joined the German Methodist Church in her youth which later joined with the English Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Society, Sunday school teacher and Superintendent of the Cradle Roll.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harry; and three sisters, Minnie Lenz, Martha Ridden and Emelie Arnold.
She leaves to mourn her departure two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Harriet) Bridgeford, Mason City and Isabelle Gibbs, Salem, Oregon; two sons, Asa Gibbs and Ronald Gibbs of Garner; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
