Rosella Jane Badker was born March 12, 1880 at Kimbolton, Guernsey, Ohio to George Patterson Carothers and Emma Ingram. She was affectionately called "Jennie" and was the fourth of eleven children.

Family found in the 1880 census living at Liberty, Guernsey, Ohio: George Patterson Carothers 29, Emma (Ingram) Carothers 23, Sarah Ellen Carothers 4, John Hamilton Carothers 3, James Dale Carothers 1, Rocilla J. Carothers 3m.

The family moved west in the spring of 1888 and settled at Garner, Hancock, Iowa.

Found Jennie in the 1895, 1900 censuses at Garner, Hancock, IA:
1900: Emma Carothers 43, Sadie E Carothers 24, Jennie R Carothers 20, William G Carothers 18, Lizzie M Carothers 14, Josephine M Carothers 12, Minnie A Carothers 10, Margaret A Carothers 7. (The father, George had died in March 1900.)

Rosella married William Henry Badker May 7, 1901 at Garner, IA. Her sister, Etta Martha married William's brother Frank Joseph Badker so their children were "double cousins".

The couple had eight children. They were:

1. Roy William Badker (born December 27, 1902 Foxhome, Wilkin, MN, married Laura Welker July 5, 1924 Clear Lake, IA, died November 4, 1976 Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, IA.);

2. Cora Marie Badker (born December 1904 Foxhome, MN, married a Mr. Dent and Quentin Victor Stille February 14, 1953, died August 7, 1964 Iowa);

3. Henry Merlin Badker (born April 5, 1907 Deuel, South Dakota, married Helen Lenore Poling July 25, 1931 Garner, IA, died February 15, 1998 Vesper, Wood, Wisconsin);

4. William Kenneth Badker (born July 26, 1909 Deuel, South Dakota, married Lena Marie Thomas abt. 1930, died June 1981 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, IA.);

5. Phyllis E. Badker (born January 26, 1911 Canby, Yellow Medicine, MN, married John Joseph Bombella December 1947 Chicago, Illinois, died February 4, 1998 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, IA);

6. Lola J. Badker (born abt. 1914 Deuel, South Dakota, married Lloyd Shook, died September 1964 Britt, Hancock, IA);

7. Bernice A. Badker (born November 27, 1916 Garner, Hancock, IA, married Milton V Hyde February 23, 1941 Hampton, Franklin, IA, may have died October 25, 1980 Orland, Brevard, Florida); and

8. Calla Josephine Badker (born June 8, 1920 Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo, Iowa, married Patrick Henry Cahill February 5, 1940 Mason City, IA, died April 20, 2011 Mason City, Cerro Gordo, IA.)

Found Will and Jennie Badker in the 1905 census living at Foxhome, Wilkin, Minnesota near Frank and Etta Martha Badker.

Found in the 1910 census at Hammer, Yellow Medicine, Minnesota:

Found in the 1920 census living at Garner, Hancock, IA. with the Gilbert family (Mrs. Gilbert was William's aunt):
Wm Badker 42, Jennie Badker 40, Roy Badker 17, Mary Badker 14, Merlin Badker 12[13] , Kenneth Badker 10, Pheyllis Badker 8, Lola Badker 6, Bernice Badker 3[3 1/12].

Rosella Jane Badker died on Saturday, October 23, 1971 at the Concord Manor Nursing Home in Garner, Iowa.

Rosella (Jennie) was born March 12, 1880 at Kimbolton, Ohio, the daughter of George Patterson Carothers and Emma Ingram Carothers.

She was married to William Henry Badker May 7, 1901. He preceded her in death in 1958. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Marie Dent Stille in August 1964, and by Lola Shook Lunde in September 1964.

She is survived by three sons: Roy of Clear Lake, Iowa; Kenneth of Mason City, Iowa; and Merlin (Merle) of Cameron, Wisconsin; and also by three daughters: Mrs. Henry (Calla) Cahill; Mrs. John (Phyllis) Bombella; and Bernice Hyde; all of Mason City, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Mrs. Margaret Lade of Garner, Iowa and Mrs. Minnie Young of Edmonds, Washington.

She was preceded in death by four brothers: Albert, John, James and Will Carothers, and four sisters: Beth Eckerson, Sadie Groesbeck, Josie Maley, and Etta Badker.

Mrs. Badker resided at Prairie View Apartments over four years prior to entering the nursing home in October of 1970. She was a favorite aunt. She loved to visit, had a remarkable mind, and was true to the Christian faith. She attained the wonderful age of 91 years, 7 months, and 11 days.

Casket Bearers were: James Cahill; Donald Cahill; Paul Badker; Richard Badker; Thomas Badker; and Wayne Badker.

The Rev. Calvin Willemssen officiated at the funeral held at the United Presbyterian Church, Garner, Iowa.

Burial was in the Concord Cemetery, Garner, Ia. with Bohn Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Hymns sung at the service were: "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Amazing Grace".
