Robert Wayne Carothers (also found as Wayne Robert) was born October 5, 1921 at Garner, Hancock, IA to John Hamilton Carothers and Bertha Mary Schleusner, the youngest of six children. His older siblings were: Evalyne, Blanche Odessa, Golda Margaret, Maurice John, and Joy Ruby.

Robert Wayne Carothers enlisted on February 23, 1943 at Camp Dodge, IA into the Army, as a private.
