Orville Theodore Handeland, 75, of Braham, Minn., passed away the morning of March 3, 2009.

Orville was born August 21, 1933 in Britt, Iowa, to Theodore and Belvia (Cornish) Handeland. He grew up with relatives in a small farming community in Iowa near the Minnesota border. Orville faced many challenges growing up since both his parents passed away when he was still young.

He completed his primary education in Charles City, and then continued his education in Riceville where he graduated from high school.

Orville met his wife of 30 years in Gilbert, Minn. He was united in marriage to Antoinette Agnes Wurm on June 10, 1967 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Pine City, Minn. The couple resided in Brooklyn Center, Minn., for five years before moving to a farm in rural Princeton. In August, 1989 Orville and his family moved to Braham where he had since resided.

Orville worked as a Draftsman for the city of Minneapolis for 25 years. He also farmed, enjoyed beekeeping, home remodeling projects, spending time with his family and the outdoors.

He is survived by his son Todd and daughter-in-law Stephanie Handeland of Burnsville; daughter Audrey and son-in-law Dr. Michel K. Barsoum of Rochester; daughter Teresa and son-in-law Shawn Morrissette of Cambridge; sister Connie; five grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by both his parents; wife Antoinette; brothers Ollie and Glen; and sisters Marie and Arlet.

A Funeral Mass was held March 6 at the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church of Braham with celebrants Fr. Nicholas Zimmer and Deacon Tom Pinataro. Music provided by Joni Nelson. Casket bearers were Kamal Barsoum, Jeremy Moc, Shawn Morrissette, Bruce Ring, Greg Ring, Paul Unger, Donald Wurm, Jerome Wurm. Interment was in the Saint Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Braham.
