Former Editor
E. L. Bailey, 83,
Buried Friday

Edgar Lewis Bailey was born July 1, 1870, the second son of Edwin Noyes Bailey and Martha Stratton Bailey, in Waupaca County, Wis. When he was eight years old he traveled with his parents to Hancock County, Iowa, in a covered wagon, the family settling at Bailey's Grove, southeast of Britt. He grew to manhood in this community, and on October 20, 1891, married Cora Mae Patrick, who preceded him in death on June 6, 1936. Two children were born to this couple, Roscoe M. Bailey, now of Mead, Nebr., and Blanche Bailey Reed, of Cherokee, Iowa.

Mr. Bailey lived in Britt for many years where he was associated with his father in operating the Britt Tribune and also was employed in the post office. In 1908 he moved to a farm at Sawyer, N. Dak., where he resided until after the death of his wife, when he made his home with his daughter. Seven months ago he became a resident of the Baptist Memorial Home at Harlan, Iowa, where his death occurred on Oct. 27, 1953, at which time he had attained the age of 83 years, 3 months and 27 days.

While living in Britt, he was a member of the Methodist church, but when he moved to North Dakota he became a member of the First Baptist church at Sawyer, where he continued his membership until his death. He was a member of the Ascalon Lodge No. 393, A. F. & A. M. at Dysart, Iowa.

Survivors in addition to his son and daughter are his six grandchildren: Keith, David and Ruth Bailey, of Mead, Nebr.; Mrs. Donald Wilde, of Monroe, Nebr.; Robert H. Bailey, of Minneapolis, and Don Reed, of Davenport; five great grandchildren; three sisters: Mrs. William Fillenwarth and Mrs. F. E. Heacox, both of Britt, and Miss Alice A. Bailey, of St. Paul; one brother, Joel D. Bailey, of Cedar Falls. He was preceded in death by his wife, and two brothers, Elbert L. Bailey and Ora S. Bailey.

Services were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church in Britt with Rev. R. M. Bell in charge. Burial was in the family lot at Evergreen cemetery.
