Grace B. Ausmus (October 7, 1913 - March 17, 2006)

GARNER – Grace B. Ausmus, 92, of Garner died Friday (March 17, 2006) at the Westview Care Center, Britt. Funeral services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday at the United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial was in Concord Township Cemetery, Garner.

Grace Bonnadean Ausmus, the daughter of Francis and Ivy (Sweet) Stanley, was born October 7, 1913 at Ridgeway, MO. She attended school at Ridgeway. Grace taught at a rural school west of Brooklyn, MO for six months in 1936 before working as a waitress in Bethany, MO where she met her future husband, Claude Nelson Ausmus. On July 17, 1938 they were married in Chillicothe, MO at the home of Claude’s oldest sister, Rena. They lived in Kansas City, MO for over 40 years where Grace was employed as a school cook. In 1998 she moved to Garner to be closer to her family. In March of 2005 she moved to Concord Care Center in Garner and in May of 2005 to Westview Care Center in Britt. Grace loved to cook, bake and entertain. She was known for her cinnamon rolls she loved to make from scratch and her dill pickles. She enjoyed spending time with her family, sewing and crocheting. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner and UMW. Grace was involved in bowling leagues, church groups and other activities. She also was an Eastern Star member for many years.

Grace is survived by her two daughters, Sue Mathahs of Thompson and Jean (Gary) Schisel of Garner; seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Francis (Jean) Stanley of Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Avis Stanley of St. Joseph, MO and Polly Stanley of Carmen, OK; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude in 1989; her parents; a son-in-law, Dale Mathahs; sister, Clare Kimm; and brothers, Forest, Charles, Clark and Claude Stanley.
