W. J. Rasmuson Dies at 73 After 2-Year Illness
Well-Known Farmer Was Active in Community Affairs
Death came Sunday, November 8 to William J. Rasmuson at his home following a long illness. Funeral services are set for Armistice Day with a prayer service at the Boughton Funeral Home for the immediate family & services in the Congregational church at Britt at 2 p.m. The Rev. E. H. Johnson will be in charge of the service. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery at Britt.
William James Rasmuson was born Feb. 18, 1880 on a farm northwest of Britt, a son to Rasmus & Augusta (Clausen) Romey-Rasmuson, pioneers of this locality. He was baptized in infancy & confirmed at an early age. He grew to manhood on the farm where he was born, better known today as the property of Harvey C. Smith & his late wife. Mr. Rasmuson attended & was graduated from the Charles City Business College at Charles City.
On December 12, 1906, Mr. Rasmuson was united in marriage to Miss Emma J. Krambeer, daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. John Krambeer, the wedding taking place at Monona, Iowa. The couple established their home on the farm near Eagle Lake where Mr. Rasmuson died, having lived 47 years on the place. Mr. Rasmuson had farmed the land a few years prior to his marriage.
Mr. Rasmuson took an active interest in the Christian side of life. Being a member of the Congregational church he served on the board of trustees many years, as well as being deacon of the church. He took an active interest in community affairs, serving as a member of the creamery board, township trustee & as a member of the County AAA program for many years.
Mr. Rasmuson was also a member of the Sportsman Club & took an interest in the preservation of the wild life as well as the work done at Eagle Lake.
Mr. Rasmuson had been in ill health for the past two years & bedfast much of the time. He had been at various hospitals for treatment & death came Sunday morning at his home while he slept. He had reached the age of 73 years, 8 months & 20 days.
Surviving Mr. Rasmuson are his wife; his aged mother, Mrs. Augusta Rasmuson; the four sons; Donald, Albert, Lloyd & William Jr. & their wives; thirteen grandchildren; & one great grandchild (DiAnn Kay Hampe), all of Britt There are two sisters: Mrs. E. P. (Tena) Healy, Britt & Mrs. Fred (Emma) Hill, Oak Park, Ill. & other relatives. The father & one brother Louis preceded Mr. Rasmuson in death.
