Former Garner resident, Robert J. Blumer of Fountain, Minnesota, died of complications of a stroke on Wednesday, July 4, 2001. He was 72.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7 at the United Methodist Church of Garner. The Rev. Kay Hooper officiated.
Burial was in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. The Riley Funeral Home of Chattfield, Minn. was in charge of arrangements.
Robert Jacob Blumer was born June 3, 1929 in rural Garner. He was the son of Jacob and Fannie (Heginger) Blumer, He attended school through the eighth grade. Mr. Blumer served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953.
On March 11, 1952 Robert Blumer and Iola Riemer were married at Garner. Mr. Blumer was engaged in farming operation near Garner until 1979 when they moved to rural Fountain, Minn. and later to the city of Fountain. He was a member of the Farmers Co-op Creamery, Farmers Co-op Elevator, a member of the Farm Bureau Board. He was also a 4-H leader for 9 years.
Survivors include his wife, Iola, a son Donovan Blumer and his wife, Julie of Fountain, Minn; a daughter, Barbara, of Garner; and two grandchildren.
Also surviving are two brothers; Donald Blumer and his wife, Thelma, of Luana, Iowa; and Harold Blumer and his wife, Dorothy, of Garner; two sisters, Betty Halverson and her husband, Alvin, of Garner; and Ivadell Schoenwetter and her husband, Raymond, of Garner.
Mr. Blumer was preceded in death by his parents.
