Ingvald Sunde rites Tuesday
Funeral services for Ingvald K. Sunde, 65, of Forest City were held Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran church in Forest City with the Rev. Thomas Oie officiating.
Mr. Sunde died unexpectedly Aug. 26 in Stavanger, Norway, as he was preparing to board a plane for the return trip to Forest City after a three-week visit with relatives and friends.
Comfort music was provided by John and Orrin Torkelson, who sang a duet, and Mrs. Clarence Torkelson, Jr., organist.
Casket bearers were Edward Abels, Charles Albertson, Ingvald Askeland, Marvin Hanna, Walter Jermeland and Nordy Nelson.
Interment was in Madison Township cemetery with the Olson-Petersen Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Ingvald K. Sunde was born Sept. 7, 1909, in Stavanger, Norway, the son of Kornelius and Elida (Olson) Sunde. He was baptized, confirmed and received his education in Norway, coming to the United States when he was 18 years old.
He came first to Thompson, where he worked as a farm hand until his marriage to Thelma Torkelson Feb. 23, 1940, at the Torkelson family farm in Ellington township.
The Sunde's farmed in the Buffalo Center, Thompson and Lakota communities until moving to Forest City in Feb. 1967.
Mr. Sunde is survived by his wife; five sons, Keith of Forest City, Ivan of Minneapolis, Robert of Thompson, Jerry of Buffalo Center and Ingvald, Jr., of Forest City; four daughters, Beverly, Mrs. Edwin Wibben of Mt. Pleasant, Mary, Mrs. James Paulsen of Sigourney and Judy and Karen Sunde, both of Forest City; five brothers, Magnus, Karl, Oswald, Edwin and Karsten Sunde, all of Stavanger, Norway; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Ruth) Abels of Bonduel, Wisc., Mrs. Lars (Clara) Skoar and Mrs. Bairjerd (Elsie) Anderson, both of Sandness, Norway; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
