Rites held Friday for Kenneth Holcomb

Funeral services for Kenneth D. Holcomb of Leland were conducted Friday at the Petersen Funeral home in Forest City. The Rev. Vern Skarstad, pastor of Ascension Lutheran church of Albert Lea, officiated.

Julie Nolte was soloist accompanied by Mrs. Marlin Nolte, organist. Casket bearers were John Dirks, Danny Finer, Mark Hoeft, Leonard Holland, Vernon Nelson and John Wonsmos. Burial will be in Madison Township cemetery in the spring.

Holcomb, 65, died last Wednesday at a Rochester, Minn., hospital from injuries suffered in an auto accident Feb. 16 near Albert Lea.

Kenneth D. Holcomb, the son of Frank and Hazel Holcomb, was born Sept. 20, 1916, in Forest City. He received his education in the Forest City schools and married Alvina Johnson Aug. 14, 1937, in Mason City.

The couple lived in Forest City until moving to Leland in 1948. Holcomb was employed in various capacities with the Chicago North Western Railroad, retiring after 35 years in 1976.

An avid fisherman and hunter, Kenneth was a member of the National Rifle Association.

Survivors include his wife, Alvina; one son, Marlin Holcomb of Albert Lea; three grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gregory and Jodi, all of Albert Lea; his mother, Mrs. Jasper (Hazel) Smith of Forest City; and four sisters, Mrs. Roy (Geneva) Merchant, Mrs. Orville (Fern) Johnson and Mrs. Ralph (Myrna) Oudekerk, all of Forest City and Mrs. Gordon (Ila Jean) Oudekerk of Dougherty.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Milo, and a sister, Sharon.
