Evelyn L. Geddes services conducted
Funeral services for lifelong area resident, Evelyn L. Geddes of Forest City, were conducted Saturday afternoon at Petersen Funeral home. The Rev. Terry R. Port, pastor First Baptist church, officiated.
Scott Bjelland was soloist and Mrs. Russell Lewis, organist. Casket bearers were Gorden Anderson, E. A. Christensen, Richard Hutson, Marvin Johnson, William Johnson and Clayton Lackore. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery.
Mrs. Geddes, 86, died Oct. 31 at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.
Evelyn L. Geddes, the daughter of Thomas and Minnie Blank, was born March 28, 1898, at Hayfield. She graduated from Hayfield high school, attended Drake University in Des Moines and taught school in Miller, Ellington township and Hayfield.
June 8, 1921, she was married to Chester C. Geddes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed in the Hayfield area until moving to Forest City in 1963. The couple entered the Good Samaritan Center in 1980. Mr. Geddes died Dec. 1, 1980.
Mrs. Geddes was active in her community and church, including the WMS, Madison Ladies Progressive Club, Garner Women's Club and U-Go-I-Go club and was a 4-H leader.
As a young woman, Mrs. Geddes joined the Methodist church in Hayfield which later merged with Garner. Upon moving to Forest City, Mr. and Mrs. Geddes became members of the United Methodist church.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Orville (Goldie) Borg of Forest City, a granddaughter, Susan Borg of Forest City, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three brothers and six sisters.
