Grant T. Johnson funeral held

Funeral services for Grant T. Johnson of Forest City were held Monday at Calvary Baptist church in Forest City. The Rev. Douglas Domokos officiated.

Mrs. Ralph Johnson was soloist and Mrs. Lawrence Pitkin, organist. Casket bearers were Spence Abrams Jr., Juern Akkermann, Gordon Hall, Robert Hill, Harvey D. Johnson and Ralph Johnson. Burial was in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson, 87, died January 8 at the home of his son, Richard Johnson in rural Leland.

Grant T. Johnson, the son of John and Adalaid Tilley Johnson, was born Oct. 4, 1899, near Havelock. At the age of two, his mother died and his father later married Louise Hayward. He attended a rural school near his home and high school at Rolfe. The family moved to a farm near Rolfe.

Aug. 31, 1927, he was married to Clover Loveridge in Newton. They farmed near Rolfe until 1944 when they moved to the present family farm near Leland. Mrs. Johnson died Aug. 29, 1958.

Johnson continued to live on the farm until moving to Forest City in 1983. For the past several weeks he had stayed with his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Doris Johnson.

When he was 12, Johnson accepted the Lord as his Saviour during revival meetings held at Havelock Methodist church. He was a member of Calvary Baptist church.

Survivors include a son, Richard C. Johnson of Leland; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Whaley of Lee's Summit, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Joe (Grace) Zimmerman of Tempe, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, a brother in infancy, his wife and a grandchild.
