Rites held Saturday for Mrs. Max Schlender, 82
Funeral services were held last Saturday for Mrs. Max (Charlotte) Schlender who died Oct. 13 at the Forest City Community Hospital. She was 82 years old.
The Rev. C. E. Page conducted the services, which were held at the Congregational Church in Forest City. Donald Clauson was organist and Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Amundson provided the vocal music.
Casket bearers were Melvin C. Anderson, Myrle Jefson, Clarence V. Johnson, Everett Leach, Larry Shirk and Simon Shirk.
Interment was at the Madison township cemetery, with Olson-Petersen Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Schlender was born in Mitchell, Ontario, Canada, on Sept. 4, 1894, the daughter of Lewis and Caroline (Ronnenberg) Wilkins. In 1896, the family moved by covered wagon from Canada to Madison, S.D. There she grew to womanhood and was married to Max F. Schlender on June 8, 1921.
Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Schlender moved to Bryant, S. D., where they lived until moving to Forest City in 1942.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Fern Shirk of Forest City and Mrs. Earl (Violet) Reitz of Ft. Walton, Fla.; five grandchildren, Randy, Mike and Brad Shirk, Mrs. Joe (Laurel) Caputo and Kenneth Reitz; and one great-grandson, Jimmy Caputo.
Mrs. Schlender was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, her husband in 1951, a daughter, a son killed in action during World War II and one grandson.
