Rites for retired farmer Thursday

Funeral services for a long-time Hayfield area farmer, Chester Geddes, 83, will be held at 10:30 this Thursday morning at Forest City United Methodist Church. Mr. Geddes died Monday at the Good Samaritan Center.

The Rev. James N. Louk will officiate assisted by the Rev. C. Herbert Hage, pastor of First Baptist church. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Rensink will sing two numbers as a duet accompanied by Mrs. Franklin Bienert, organist.

Casket bearers will be Curtis Blank, Emil A. Christensen, Dean Geddes, Marvin Johnson, Clayton D. Lackore and Robert Schulz. Burial will be in Madison township cemetery.

He was born Nov. 1, 1897, at the farm home of his parents, Garrett and Minnie Geddes. While a child he moved with his parents to Hawthorne, Wis., where he started school. The family returned to the Hayfield area when he was 12 and he completed his education in the Hayfield school system.

He married Evelyn Blank June 8, 1921, at the Little Brown church in Nashua. The couple established their home on a farm west of Hayfield. In 1964 the couple retired and moved to their home on Pilot Knob road just east of Forest City.

Mr. Geddes was active in the Hayfield Methodist church, served as a school bus driver for the Hayfield schools, and was secretary of the Farmers Cooperative Creamery association in Garner. He was also a long-time member of the Hancock County Farm Bureau.

Since moving to Forest City, Mr. Geddes has been a member of the Forest City United Methodist church and of its Happy Hour club. Since May he has lived at the Good Samaritan Center.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; their daughter, Mrs. Orville (Goldie) Borg, and a granddaughter, Susan Borg of Moorhead, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mabel Howard and Gertrude Schulz, and three brothers, Abram, Guy and Quentin Geddes.

The Petersen funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
