1916-1996Services for Charles D. Carothers, 80, Austin, who died Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN, were held Wednesday, Sept. 25, 11 a.m., at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. James I. Mikkelson officiating.
Honorary casket bearers were Ivan Olson, Don Teidman, Sterling Thompson, Max Teff, Leonard Haugland, Curtis Arneson, Charles
Steenblock and Jack Swanson.Active bearers were Matthew Carothers, David Carothers, Jim Peters, Jack Schwab, Carl Fisher, Lynne Carothers, Amanda Carothers and Jeff Casterton.
Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. at Concord Township Cemetery, Garner, with Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in charge of arrangements.
Charles D. Carothers, the son of James and Dilla (Quintus) Carothers, was born February 24, 1916, in Garner. He graduated from Garner High School in 1934 where he excelled in track and football. After graduating he worked for Carl Bohn Furniture and Funeral Home in Garner.
June 19, 1938, he married Adeline Greimann at the Peace Reformed Church in Garner.
He moved to Austin and worked for the Hormel Foods Corp from 1942 to 1977.
He was an avid reader, played golf, fished, hunted, bird watched, traveled and enjoyed nature. His first love was his family and his church. He also sang in the church choir and loved music.
He was a member of St Olaf Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Carol Carothers of Owatonna, MN, Jim and Linda Carothers of Johnston; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bob Peters of Harmony, MN; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters, Verna Veeder and Velda Neiderfrank.
