1909-1990Services for Nora C. Brooks, 81, Britt, who died Sunday, April 8, 1990 at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held Thursday, April 12, 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Britt with Rev. Dennis Bailey officiating.
Music was provided by organist, Myra Bowman, who accompanied the soloist, Jim Sweers, and the congregation. Ushers were Lee Marchand and Tim Grove.
Honorary casket bearers were John Johnson, Milton Friedow, Frank Johnson, Russell Hansen, Gerhard Prull, Lloyd Halfpop and Vernon Weiland.
Active bearers were Ron Brooks, Dean Brooks, Merlyn Brown, Alan Perkins, Chuck Moeckley and Edward Luppen.
Burial was at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Nora Charlotte Brooks, the daughter of Lyman and Carrie Ronquest Dexter, was born March 24, 1909 near Britt. She attended Erin School near Britt.
July 20, 1927, she married Charley Brooks at Corwith. The couple farmed in the Britt area until 1936 when they moved to a farm in the Lehigh-Burnside area for 12 years. In 1948, they moved to a farm near Kanawha.
Nora had been a resident of the Westview Care Center in Britt for the past three years.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Britt Senior Citizens. Her life centered around her family, she enjoyed gardening, crocheting and farm animals.
She is survived by a son, Donald and wife, Marlene of Britt; grandson, Ronald and wife, Sue of Britt; a granddaughter, Lori Jo of Mason City; two great-grandchildren, Carrie and Troy of Britt; three sisters, Mertie Johnson of Britt, Viola and husband, Howard Lovinger of Enumclaw, WA, Dorothy and husband, Paul Viehweg of Hamilton, MT; a brother, Henry and wife, Dorothy Dexter of Yuma, AZ; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charley, who died August 4, 1983; and two sisters.
