James E. Brady
1904-2000James E. Brady of Woden died Monday, April 3, 2000 at the Titonka Care Center. He was 95.
Funeral services for Mr. Brady were held Thursday, April 6 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Woden, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Lector was Ron Eden. Soloist Paul Harrington was accompanied by organist Frances Harrington.
Burial was in the Bingham Township Cemetery south of Woden. The Cataldo Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Casket bearers were Kay Schleusner, Donny Schleusner, June Brady, Jay Brady, Dawn Shestko and Edward Hill.
James Erville Brady was born July 27, 1904 on a farm near Jolly, Iowa. He was the son of Hamilton V. and Chrysanthemum M. (Miles), Brady. He moved with his family to Thompson where he attended the rural schools. Mr. Brady worked on various farms in the Thompson area and throughout North Dakota and Minnesota.
On Sept. 4, 1933 James Brady and Caroline "Carrie" Elizabeth Steiner were married at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Buffalo Center. The couple lived in Thompson until 1940, when they moved to the Woden area and farmed. In December of 1968 they moved into Woden.
Mr. Brady farmed for many years. He also worked on construction and repaired grain elevators in north Iowa and southern Minnesota. In his younger years he enjoyed turtleing, playing cards, traveling to Tucson and his family. He resided at the Titonka Care Center the past nine years.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Woden, and the Woden Senior Citizens.
Survivors include his son, Roger J. Brady, and his wife, Sonja, of Garner and their three children, Kay Schleusner, and her husband, Donny, and their three children, Brooke, Keri and Ami, all of Garner; Jay Brady, Garner, and June Brady, Garner; his daughter, Mary Hill Heleotes and her husband, Evan of Tucson, Ariz. and her two children, Edward Hill and his wife, Anne, and their children, Joshua and Danielle, all of Albuquerque, N.M. and Dawn Shestko and her husband, Matthew, and their children, Kristene, Darby and Devon, all of Georgetown, Texas.
Mr. Brady was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, on Dec. 29, 1994; his son, Edward, August of 1958; his parents; two sisters: Floella "Babe" Erickson and Alice Martin; and a brother, Arnette Brady.
