1909-2000Funeral services for Jennie Boekelman, 90, of Britt, who passed away Wednesday, March 1, at the Westview Care Center, Britt, were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 4, at First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dr. William H. Green officiating. Music was provided by organist, Donna Tech who accompanied soloist, Ramona Jacobson and congregational hymns. Ushers were Randy Gremmer and Raymond Bruns. Casket bearers were Ramona Jacobson, Michael Jacobson, Sandy Boekelman, Michael Boekelman, Paul Boekelman and Susan Boekelman. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.
Jennie Bertha Marie Boekelman, the daughter of George and Engeleina (Alke) Meyer, was born March 30, 1909, on their farm near Titonka. She attended school in the Wesley and Titonka area. On March 18, 1936 she was united in marriage with Heyo Ubbe Boekelman at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka. They lived in Titonka where they were in business. In 1953, they moved to Britt where they farmed until Heyo's death in 1974. In 1975, Jennie moved to Britt where she worked at Westview Care Center. Due to ill health, she moved to Westview Care Center in September of 1993. She enjoyed her family, baking, cooking and church work.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church where she served as past president of FLCW and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the Britt Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her two sons, Harold Boekelman and his wife, Maxine, of Britt and George Boekelman and his wife, Doris, of Britt; five grandchildren, Ramona Jacobson and her husband, Michael, and their children, Jennifer, Marcus, Megan and Benjamin, Paul Boekelman and his wife, Amy, Sandy Boekelman, Michael Boekelman and his wife, Kim, and their children, Tana and Ty and Susan; and a sister-in-law, Annie Meyer of Osceola, MO.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Heyo; parents, an infant sister; two brothers, John and Christian Meyer; and three sisters, Vollina Redenius, Julia Folkerts and Martha Fuls.
