Services for Earl Boehnke, 86, of Ventura who died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake, were held 10:30 a.m., Wed. Nov 19. at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg officiating. Lector was David Giese.

Music was provided by organist, Paul Boehnke; cellist, Julie Elhard; and soloists, Mary Giese and Ruth Ann Taylor. Ushers were Harlan Hayes. Glenn Thada and Roger Furness.

Honorary casket bearers were Harlan Carolus. Warren Thada, Bob Ollenburg. Ray Boehnke, LeRoy Hollatz. Arnold Pueggel. Marvin Brager, Art Boehnke and Dale Plath.

Casket bearers were Robert Boehnke, Scott Ollenburg, John Boehnke, Tom Pueggel, Mark Boehnke, Rev. David Dressel, Paul Boehnke and Philip Boehnke.

Burial was at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery with the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, in charge of arrangements.

Earl Emil Harold Boehnke, the son of Julius and Anna (Pueggel) Boehnke, was born July 4, 1911, on a farm northeast of Garner. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church on July 30, 1911, and confirmed on April 5, 1925. He attended St. Johns's Parochial School.

January 27, 1956 he married Laura O. Hollatz at St. Luke's Lutheran St. Louis Park, MN. They farmed with Earl's brother, Lawrence, northeast of Garner and later with their son, Tom, until retiring from active farming in 1983. The farm has been recognized as a Century Farm.

He enjoyed his family, grandchildren, farming, raising sheep and driving his pickup to look at crops in the area.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Lutheran Layman's League and had played trombone in the St. John's Orchestra. He was also an honorary member of the Ventura FFA Chapter and past-president of the Clear Lake Shipper's Association.

He is survived by his wife, Laura O. Boehnke of Ventura; a son, Tom Boehnke and his wife, Janet, and their children, Kara Joy, Shanna Sue, Brittany Lou and Kevin Thomas all of Ventura; a sister-in-law, Edna Boehnke of Edina, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence Boehnke and his wife, Alitza, George Boehnke, Arnold Boehnke, in infancy; and a sister, Elsie Fressel and her husband, Rev. Oscar Fressel.
