Services for Edward Lewis Bedford, 81, who passed away May 4 at the Westview Care Center in Britt, were held Tuesday, May 7 at the First Lutheran Church in Britt at 1:30 p.m. Rev. James A. Mattson officiated.

Marta Eenhuis, organist, accompanied Mrs. Paul Smith as soloist.

Casket bearers were Scott Schweertmann, Craig Waldera, Gary Dalland, Mike Dalland, Jim Dalland, Don Bedford, Dale Hrubes and John Kline.

Interment was at the Evergreen Cemetery, Britt with Carter Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Edward L., the son of James and Elizabeth Rosenthal Bedford, was born on June 7, 1903, in Monroe, Wisconsin. He moved with his parents to the Artesian, South Dakota area where he attended the rural schools. In 1925 he moved to Hancock County where he started farming. On February 23, 1926, he was united in marriage with Lois Swaney at Woden. The couple farmed around the Britt and Corwith area until he retired and moved into Britt in 1967. Ed enjoyed fishing and gardening. Ed was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt.

He is survived by his wife, Lois; two daughters, Mrs. Merle (Marian) Dalland of Owatonna, Minn., Mrs. Ed (LaVonne) Schweertmann of Roland, two sons, Roland of Santee, Calif., and Bob of Britt, 16 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, two brothers, William of Mitchell, So. Dak., and Elmer of Rapid City, So. Dak.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, one brother and a son Elmer, who passed away April 12, 1985.
