Services for Vernon "Dick" Frein, 73, of Garner, who died Saturday, Dec. 14 1996, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City will be held 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with Rev. John W. Hemann as celebrant. Mrs. Arlyn Nedved will be lector.

Mrs. Ronald Kumsher, organist, will accompany the St. Boniface Catholic Church Choir. Ushers will be Duane Severson and Larry Schisel.

Casket bearers will be James Frein, Norman Lunning, Chuck Frein, Mike Frein, Dorian Goll, Dan Goll, Todd Frein and Dan Marson.

Burial will be in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Garner. Visitation was from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday with a Scriptural Wake service at 7 p.m., all at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel at 160 E. 4th St. in Garner.

Vernon "Dick" Lawrence Frein, the son of Joseph and Julia (Hemann) Frein, was born April 27, 1923 at Stacyville. After attending school at Osage, he moved to Garner where he worked for various farmers. He served his country during W.W. II in the U.S. Army. After the service he returned to Garner and established his own trucking business.

June 24, 1949, he married Elaine M. Goll in Garner. They made their home in Garner all of their married life. Dick also worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City from 1969 until he retired in 1986. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren and family at his lakeside cabin.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, St. Boniface Men's Society, the Garner American Legion where he served as Chaplain and served on the board of the Memorial Building.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Frein of Garner; five children, Terry Frein and his wife, Kristie, and their children, Melissa Frein, Nate Frein, Aaron Lindsley and Scott Lindsley, all of Waukee, Debra Juhl and special friend, Tom Kral, and her children, Kelly Juhl, Kory Juhl, Kristy Juhl and Brady Juhl, all of Garner, Mark Frein and his wife, Danielle, and their children, Lindsay Frein, Jordan Frein and Karlee Frein, all of Fort Dodge, Cindy Bolie and her husband, David, and their children, David Bolie Jr. and Brittany Bolie, all of Buffalo Center and Brad Frein and his wife, Shelly, and their children, Ben Frein and Kacie Frein, all of Garner; two sisters, Mary Alice Merrick of Osage and Pat Ahrens and her husband, Don of Mason City; three brothers, Bill Frein and his wife, Alice of Des Moines, Marvin "Bud" Frein of Minneapolis, MN, and Bob Frein and his wife, Marlene of Osage; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Frein of Forest City, Arlene Frein of Garner and Pat Frein Westendorf of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Julia Frein; and infant sister, Ruth Ann Frein; and five brothers, Don Frein, Jerome Frein, Harry Frein, Dean Frein and Wilmer Frein,
