Josephine Gerdis
1908-1990

Services for Mrs. Josephine Gerdis, 81, of Woden, who died Monday, May 21, 1990 at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, were held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at the Presbyterian Church in Woden with Rev. Richard Sleyster as officiant.

Mrs. Steven Eden, organist, accompanied Cary Brown, soloist.

Casket bearers were John Barker, Don Gerdis, Dick Gerdis, Roger Gerdis, Wayne Norland and Charles Rudisill.

Burial was in Bingham Township Cemetery at Woden. Visitation was held at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in Woden.

Josephine Amanda Gerdis, the daughter of Henry and Inez (Gray) Coller, was born August 5, 1908 at Bancroft. After attending school at Bancroft, she worked for Dr. Howe for several years in Bancroft.

June 20, 1928, she was married to Henry Gerdis at Titonka. They lived in the Buffalo Center-Titonka area, until 1958 when they moved into Woden.

She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and U. P. W.

She is survived by her children, Henry Gerdis and his wife, Millie of Waterloo, Betty Steinlicht of Forest City, Mrs. Peggy Kirschbaum and her husband, Robert of Stanhope, Mrs. Jackie Van Hove and her husband, John of Kanawha, Mrs. Sandy Hugo and her husband, Fred, Jr. of Woden, Gloria Day of Kanawha and Charleen Hoveland of Kanawha; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her sister, Mrs. Dorothy Scott of Charles City; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Coller of Paris, IL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gerdis, July 2, 1985; three grandsons, Rickey Steinlicht, Michael Steinlicht and Tim Hugo; a great-granddaughter, Emma Jo Winter; her parents; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Yeakel and Mrs. Edna Slinker; and two brothers, Norman Coller and Cecil Coller.
