Services for Robert J. Paulson, 87, of Britt, who died Friday, February 19, 1999, at Westview Care Center, were held 1:30 p.m., Monday, Feb. 22, at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt with the Rev. Bill Culbertson officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Jane Anderson, who accompanied soloist, Jay Burgardt, and congregational hymns. Ushers were David Peterson and Harold Kahlstorf.

Casket bearers were Bob's grandchildren and their spouses.

Military rites were conducted by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation was held Sunday at the Cataldo Funeral Home, Britt.,

Robert John Paulson, the son of Paul Merritt and Cora Evalena (Peterson) Paulson, was born June 17, 1911, at Clear Lake. In 1913, he moved with his parents to Dike where he graduated from high school in 1928. He then moved with his parents to Clear Lake and in 1929, to Garner where he worked for Austin Poultry and Egg.

February 3, 1934, he married Hazel Marie Halverson at Austin. They moved to Mason City in 1936 where he worked for Swift and Company. In 1940, they moved to Britt where he again worked for Garner Produce.

Robert enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1944 where he attended an electrical school and a gyro compass school before serving abroad a mine sweeper in the Pacific Theatre. After his discharge, he returned to Britt and worked for the Iowa Light and Power Company for 29 years, retiring in 1976. For many years he lovingly cared for his ill wife until her death on October 7, 1993.

February 1, 1997, he married Lettie Petersen at the Evangelical Free Church in Britt. They made their home in Britt. Due to ill health, Bob moved to the Westview Care Center in September of 1998. He was well known and respected in the Britt community.

He was a member of the Evangelical Free Church, V.F.W., and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife, Lettie M. Paulson of Britt; a daughter, Wanda L. Michelson of Manchester; a step-daughter, Linda Diel and husband, Herb; a step-son, Robert Lange and wife, Diane; five grandchildren, Robert B. Michelson of Littleton, CO. Scot B. Michelson and wife, Karen of Fayette, Paul A. Michelson and wife, Lisa of Cedar Rapids, Corrine L. Ball and husband, Tim of Britt and Kurt L. Michelson of Iowa City; step-grandchildren, Patty and Christy Diel and Julie, Tanya and Kristy Lange; great-grandchildren, Pam Michelson, Craig Michelson, Julie Michelson, Kaylee Michelson, Ellen Michelson, Andrew Ball, Lucas Ball and Ethan Ball; step-great-grandchildren, Megan and Haley; a brother, Charles K. Paulson of Ft. Meyers, FL. a sister-in-law, Wanita Paulson of Leavenworth, KS; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Hazel; two sisters, Lucille Pinkerton and Annabelle Paulson; and three brothers, Donald, Wayne and Raymond Paulson.
