Services for La Verne Stewart, 93, Britt, who died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, at West View Care Center in Britt, were held Friday, Nov. 6, 10:30 a.m., at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt with Rev. Kenneth Suetterlin officiating.

Music was provided by Mabel Rensink, organist, and Paul Jefson, vocalist.

Casket bearers were Cole Larson, James Larson, Mike Larson, Zachary Larson, Anthony Lorette and Chris Lorette.

Burial was at the Crystal Lake Cemetery, Crystal Lake.

La Verne Ethel Stewart, the daughter of Willis and Novella Bonham McFarland, was born February 7, 1905, in Union County.

June 30, 1921, she married Clifford Stewart in Forest City. The couple made their home in the Crystal Lake area, where La Verne was a homemaker and worked at the Crystal Lake Post Office.

La Verne served on the Board of Directors of the Hancock County Memorial Hospital, was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was a volunteer at the West View Care Center for many years. For a number of years, La Verne wrote news articles for the Mason City Globe Gazette.

She is survived by two daughters, Marjorie Stallman and her husband, Virgil of Sibley, and Gwendolyn Nelson and her husband, James of Algona; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Benson of Cedar Rapids.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one great-grandson, four sisters and one brother.
