Harland Halverson services Thursday

Funeral services for Harland O. Halverson of Forest City will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Faith Lutheran church in Miller. The Rev. Emil Martinson officiated.

Music will be provided by Mrs. Emil Martinson, soloist, and Mrs. Ronald Anderson, organist.

Casket bearers include Leo Hammond, Terry Hammond, David Hammond, Michael Halverson, Gerald Halverson and David Zimple.

Burial will be in Madison Township cemetery with the Petersen Funeral home in charge of the arrangements.

Halverson, 83, died Tuesday at the Forest City community hospital after suffering a stroke.

Harland O. Halverson, the son of Albert and Nettie Paulson Halverson, was born Sept. 25, 1898, in Ellington township in Hancock county. He was baptized and confirmed at the former Ellington Prairie Lutheran church and received his education in the rural school in Ellington township.

As a young man Halverson worked hauling freight in the area. In 1922, he was married to Fern Juhl and started farming in Ellington township. She died Aug. 28, 1928. He then married Viola Olson Jan. 10, 1930. Mr. Halverson continued to farm until moving to Forest City in 1947 where he did general trucking. In 1951, he returned to the farm and retired in 1961, returning to live in Forest City.

He was a member of Faith Lutheran church in Miller.

Survivors include his wife. Viola; two sons, Franklin and Alvin Halverson of Garner; one daughter, Mrs. Leo (Norma) Hammond of Leland; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one sister. Iona Halverson of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, a sister, Edith Nelson, and twin brothers. Raymond and Ralph, in infancy.
