Services for Calvin B. Christenson, 72, Crystal Lake, who died at his home Tuesday, Oct. 29, 1996, were held Saturday, Nov. 2, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake with Rev. Kenneth Suetterlin officiating.

Music was provided by organist, Mabel Rensink, who accompanied the congregational hymns. Donald Cottington was usher.

Casket bearers were Gregory Peck, Jeff Peck. Shane Hobbs, Zane Hobbs, Jeramy Christenson and Jeff Evans.

Burial was at the Crystal Lake Cemetery with Ewing Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Calvin Brewster Christensen, the son of Anton and Hannah Johanson Christenson, was born January 22, 1924, in Crystal Lake. He attended school in Crystal Lake and graduated from high school in 1942. After graduation he worked as a welder in the Oakland Shipyards. He served in the Naval Reserve as a welder in the shipyards in Pearl Harbor. Following the war, he returned to Crystal Lake in 1945.

October 19, 1946, he married Violet Siekmeier at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Crystal Lake. Calvin farmed near Crystal Lake and later operated a sundry business. The couple then moved to Brooten, MN, where he farmed and also worked as a propane tank welder from 1956 until 1969. They then moved to Beardstown, IL, where Calvin worked as a plant manager at Trinity Industries from 1969 until 1974. In 1974, Calvin retired and they moved back to Crystal Lake.

He and his son, Hal, had a carpentry business for some years. After retirement, Calvin was an avid gardener and later he opened a gift shop in Crystal Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Violet. a son, Craig and his wife, Shirley of Roseville. MN, and children, Michelle and Kate; a daughter, Terry Kaeder and Ray Greevers of Fridley, MN and children, Tanya, Andrew, Vanessa and Tammy; a daughter, Sue Christenson of Rosharon, TX: a son. Hal and his wife, Shirleen of Cumberland, VA, and children, Anja and Kaleb. and a son, Dave and his wife, Shirley of Moline, IL, and children, Danielle, Jeramy, Donny and Hollie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, one brother, and six siblings in infancy.
