Last rites held Saturday for Irving W. Charlson

Irving W. Charlson, 84, a lifelong resident of the Forest City area, died last Thursday at Grohaven nursing home in Forest City following a lengthy illness.

A son of Andrew and Betsy (Rygmyr) Charlson, he was born Oct. 15, 1888, on a farm near Forest City. On June 15, 1915, he was married to Olivia Morem at the Methodist parsonage in Forest City.

The couple made their home on a farm in Linden township until 1943 when they retired and moved to Forest City.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Willard of Forest City and Amery of Swea City; two daughters, Mrs. Standley (Irene) Holland of Leland and Mrs. Marvin (Mavis) Berhow of Dakota City; 16 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters, Clarence, Bliss and Ellsworth Charlson and Mrs. George (Bertha) Klipping and Mrs. John (Cora) Johnson, all of Forest City.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran church with the Rev. Ole Winter officiating. Casket bearers were Andy, Mark, Ronnie and Charles Holland and Kirby and Timmy Berhow.

Burial was in Madison township cemetery. Olson-Peterson funeral home was in charge of the arrangements.
