Last rites for Ernest Bonar held Saturday in Forest City

Funeral services Ernest E. Bonar, 88, a native of Madison township who died last Wednesday at the Good Samaritan center in Forest City following a brief illness, were held at 10:30 Saturday morning at Calvary Baptist church.

The Rev. Eldon Pals officiated and burial was in Madison township cemetery.

Special music was provided by a trio comprised of Mrs Ralph Johnson, Mrs. Dean Krieger and Mrs. Ken Wald.

Casket bearers were Ralph Johnson, Dean Krieger, Milo J. Pitkin, Donald Toavs, Tim Toavs and Ken Wald. Olson-Peterson funeral home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bonar, a son of David and Minnie (Filter) Bonar, was born Jan. 20, 1885, in Madison township. He was educated in area schools and taught school in Lisbon, N. Dak., for a period before returning to teach in Hancock county.

He married Mabel Jensen June 14, 1911, in Forest City and the couple moved to a farm in Madison township following their marriage where they lived until retiring to Forest City in 1966. His wife preceded him in death.

Survivors include two daughters Mrs. Milo (Lucille) Pitkin of rural Forest City and Mrs. Jesse (Janice) Toavs of Alexandria, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth Yohn of Clear Lake and Mrs. Edith Meyer of Crystal Lake; seven grand children and 13 great grandchildren.
