The Passing Of Howard Hunsley

Death came Saturday, July 19, to Howard Hunsley, a long time resident of the Stilson vicinity. Mr. Hunsley had been in declining health for the past several years and made his home at Rest Haven in Mason City where he was cared for. At death he had reached the age of 76 years, 2 months and 18 days.

Howard Hunsley was born at Decatur, Ill., April 1, 1876, a son to Edmund and Mary Hunsley. When he was nine years old the family was living at Cisco, Ill., and in 1885 they moved into the town of Cisco.

On August 22, 1898, Howard Hunsley came to Stilson, Iowa and spent most of his remaining years in that vicinity. He was active in the work of the Stilson U. B. Church and was a member of the Stilson quartet for thirty years. Other members were Ernest Galbraith, Emery Long, and the late Fred Hunsley.

Mr. Hunsley helped the late Wm. Nall stake out the Boone Township Cemetery in about the year 1900, and is was his request that he be buried there.

Mr. Hunsley lived in Corwith several years with his sister, the late Mary Hunsley. Prior to going to Mason City he had lived in Britt.

Deceased was one of seven children. Surviving him are two brothers: Charles at Decatur, Ill., and Marcie south of Garner. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death, they were Mrs. Laura Hathaway, Jerseyville, Ill.; Miss Mary Hunsley, Corwith; Ervie Hunsley, Crystal Lake, and Arthur, Joliet, Ill.

A short funeral service was held Tuesday at the Boughton Funeral Home and the regular service was conducted at the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. J. S. Phipps in charge. Burial was in the Boone Township cemetery. The Rev. Charles Norton, pastor of the Evangelical United Brethren church at Stilson, also had a part in the last rites.
